We deploy solutions using secure Akamai platforms:
- Protection from security threats: the Akamai Cloud Security Intelligence (CSI) is a Big Data analysis engine that harnesses the visibility that Akamai has into web traffic delivered to every Akamai customer. This makes up 15 - 30% of all global web traffic every day and is used to identify attack patterns and trends. We have a dedicated threat research team of data scientists that create more than 8,000 queries per day to analyze the data. We use these queries to refine our security protections and processes, and provide up-to-date protection capabilities based on the latest intelligence.
- Protection from DDoS attacks with the Akamai Intelligent Platform: a globally distributed cloud platform through which we deliver all our security solutions, the Akamai Intelligent Platform has unmatched scale, with over +300k servers, six global scrubbing centers, and more than 2,000 name servers around the world. It can help you secure high value websites and web applications from downtime, data theft and defacement. Always-on DDoS protection provides an automated response to application-layer DDoS attacks within seconds and automatically drops network-layer DDoS attacks at the edge.
- Responding to attacks: Akamai operates a 24x7 global security operations center to help our customers respond to attacks, with five physical locations around the world to better support our customers. We have over 100 analysts and engineers – just in the SOC itself – with a cumulative 200+ technical security certifications. The SOC has been operating for over 11 years, mitigates 40 to 50 attacks every week, and provides a time-to-mitigate SLA for all DDoS mitigation efforts.
- Web Application Firewall (WAF) protection: we also have a highly scalable and highly accurate WAF that can protect against SQL injections, XSS and more without performance impact.
- Bot management: we use the Akamai Bot Manager service to identify, categorize, manage and report bot traffic in the cloud.
- IP reputation capability: an additional layer of defense based on Akamai’s visibility into hundreds of millions of unique IP addresses monthly. We can also protect your DNS infrastructure with our authoritative DNS service. Beyond massive scale, we use a combination of rate limiting and white listing to protect DNS from DDoS attacks. In addition, DNSSEC capabilities are available as an optional add-on in both Serve and Sign-and-Serve deployment models.
